Question: In Deuteronomy 18, the Scripture says to be wary of prophets. Is this a warning about prophets in general, especially ones with “supernatural” powers?
God in the Old Testament (Covenant); gives warning regarding. Soothsayers, diviners etc.; but states clearly that He had not sent them to Israel (Deut.18:14).
God also repeats and confirms His anger with false prophets; Jeremiah 23!
God goes on to say that in the future, He will “raise up a Prophet like Moses from amongst them” (Deut. 19:15–19), Who would “speak His (God’s) Words”; clearly referring to Christ Jesus!
Jesus made it clear that “He had not appeared on Earth to destroy the Law”; but to confirm it (Luke 24:44); and He did not introduce the “New Covent” in His Body and Blood until the Last Supper with His disciples, (Luke 22:17:20).
There is of course the same situation now on Earth; so it is important to differentiate the genuine teacher, preacher etc.; which will be apparent from checking their words against the Bible!
